Abstract

Characteristic properties of evaluative affixes defined by Scalise present a starting point for my research. Nominal and adjectival diminutives and augmentatives were paid most of the attention. Verbal diminutives and augmentatives were of marginal interest, which may be related to their considerably lower frequency of occurrence in individual languages compared to nouns and adjectives. The aim of this paper is to analyze the above properties in the selected sample of evaluative verbal suffixes in Slavic languages and evaluate the validity of Scalise’s claims for these languages.
