Abstract

Migration from one country/language/culture to another one is a frequent reason for language contact, linguistic borrowing, bilingualism, and cultural influence. The paper analyses possible types and reasons for migration. Then different waves of immigration to Germany since the 19th century are described, including linguistic effects and cultural problems of integration.
