Abstract

The present study aims to investigate the difference in the use and frequency of metadiscourse markers in the abstracts of 20 research articles authored by academic writers in the field of sociology and engineering. The abstracts were examined manually to find any occurrence of metadiscourse markers. Then a chi-square test was used to examine the significance of the frequency of distribution of these markers. The results revealed that there is no significant difference in the use and frequency of these markers in the selected disciplines.
