Abstract

The paper represents an account of the translation performance of master students at the Faculty of Letters in Braşov, Romania. More precisely, it focuses on their translating verb plus verbal noun collocations and the impact that their choices have on the target language text. The assessment is based on a bilingual parallel learner corpus made up of the English source-language text and a small-size Romanian translational subcorpus. The research leads to findings relative to the quality of the translations, measures for improvement, and the importance of adequate translation of linguistic devices affecting the target text stylistically.
