Abstract

The main topics of the novel “L’Amour, la fantasia”, can be identified only as pairs of opposite themes – such as Eros and Thanatos, or love and death; man and woman; writing and silence; closed spaces, free spaces; modernity and tradition, self and other, victim and conqueror – can be all found in the passage entitled Sistre. The aim of this paper is to provide a thorough textual analysis of the passage entitled Sistre which appears at the end of the second part of Assia Djebar’s novel “L’Amour, la fantasia”, which functions as mise en abyme.
