The aim of this article is to argue in favour of Conversation analysts’ tenet, that, for those interested in intercultural communication, talk-in-interaction should be the focus of research, and that it should be based on naturally occurring data. For this, I will first critically consider the use of Discourse Completion Tests (DCTs) in comparative and contrastive studies, and then suggest a way forward in the analysis of intercultural communication.Published
