Abstract

This paper presents Daniel Defoe’s novel entitled “Moll Flanders” as the story of one woman’s evolution from a poor economic status to a middle-class caste in the 17th-century society, highlighting the issues of immorality, money, repentance, and social identity, and laying an emphasis upon the narrative techniques used by Defoe. Moll is a victim of society because all her problems are rooted in the profane society in which she lives.
