Abstract

The paper dwells upon the restrictive aspect of translations on Flaubert’s work in 19th century Romania due to the evolution of the language itself at that time and also to the lack of interest in Flaubert’s literary work displayed by translators, considered difficult as compared to bestsellers or serial novels, fashionable in that age, and also due to a deficitary horizon of expectation, an uneducated audience or on the contrary, an audience able to approach the text directly in its original form, in French.
