Prima and Seconda Prattica – Basic Techniques in Claudio Monteverdi’s Creation
Abstract
By combining the Roman religious element – represented by the Gregorian choral, with another important element of lay origin – the madrigal, Claudio Monteverdi was able to synthesize uniquely in his creation all valuable musical and artistic knowledge of his time and his forerunners. This is the reason to consider Monteverdi, after almost 400 years, a timely composer.Published
