Abstract

The dictum is an interesting form of religious cantata, developed in Transylvania and deriving from 15th and 16th-century Passion music in the German tradition of the Lutheran Church. Its most interesting feature is that it also involves the congregation members through inserted chorales sung by them. An impressive collection of dicta has been preserved in the archive of the Lutheran Church A.C.; however, this music genre was not spread in all Transylvanian areas.
