Employment or Unemployment at the Third Age?
Keywords:
functionalism, role, status, unemployment, active ageing, continuityAbstract
The problem of persons who retire at a given moment is a challenge not only for the present society but also for those who work with elderly persons. For a better understanding of the aspects influencing the perception of retirement, we can compare the theoretical perspectives which explain ageing, in order to find out viable solutions to attenuate the negative effects experienced on retirement. Among the various perspectives on ageing, I have chosen to compare the most familiar theories about ageing, namely: the theory of unemployment, the theory of work (activity) and the theory of continuity.
