Abstract

The present survey summarizes a ten-year work carried out on a representative sample for Braşov. Its explicit purpose is to offer the practitioner in psychology a valid instrument of detecting the volume of Working Memory through five different subtests: Digit, Word, Visual, Rhythm, and Movement Memory, integrated by the same IQ scale. Ages taken into account are from 6 to 18 years, and for each category, 50-55 subjects were tested, for masculine and feminine genders separately. The sample comprising 1,226 subjects offers differentiated norms for each category. Another purpose of our research reconsiders the role of memory in school learning through getting double the classic Intelligence Quotient (IQ) by an indicator of quite similar importance, Memory Index (IMe). The Memory Battery, elaborated simultaneously with the one of intelligence, was validated against an external criterion, school achievement expressed by the school's general mean.
