Multimodal Treatment in Breast Cancer. Practical Knowledge of the Oncological Department 2005-2006

Abstract

Breast cancer is a leading cause of mortality at women in Romania. Though it is easily recognized with screening procedures like clinical examination and mammography, there is a great number of locally advanced and metastatic cases at a first examination. The present paper is a retrospective study, performed on the medical records of 196 patients selected among the 432 cases of breast cancer diagnosed at Brasov County Hospital between 1.1.2005 and 31.12.2006. The purpose is to present different modalities of approach according to individual parameters and tumor markers. The multimodal approach include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and hormonal therapy, emphasizing on the prognostic factors like age, tumor bed, endocrine responsiveness.
