Abstract

The paper presents a study of radiologic modifications associated with heart involvement in HIV-positive patients. Its main goal is to assess the value of X-ray investigations as a tool to diagnose heart pathology typical for this group of patients. The main characteristics of the subjects included in the study were age below 18 and horizontally acquired HIV infection. Our results validate the screening test value of the radiologic method for diagnosing pulmonary hypertension and left ventricle hypertrophy and the necessity of an additional echocardiographic examination for a positive diagnosis. The method also proves to be reliable in diagnosing cardiomegaly.
