Histopathological Aspects of Brain in Children with Iatrogenic AIDS
Keywords:
HIV, AIDS, postmortem, microscopyAbstract
The objective of this study was to examine microscopical aspects of the brain in 17 children deceased by iatrogenic AIDS. We have observed edema, hyperemia, microlesions of the small vessel walls, hematic extravasation, perivascular infiltration with lymphocytes and macrophages, gliosis, and mild demyelination. These damages can be direct or/indirectly caused by viral products or/excitotoxic factors released by HIV infected macrophages and endothelial cells.Published
