Abstract

The study evaluates the present knowledge about BHV infection, the level of awareness regarding the necessity of non-specific prophylaxis, and the opportunity and the students’ availability of continuing the education in this important public health matter. The objectives were to test the level of practical knowledge, attitudes, and personal opinions of the target group about BHV infection and to evaluate the opportunity of continuing sanitary education. A prospective study was applied to a group of 57 students. The conclusions of the study show that the majority of the students are aware of the utility and necessity of non-specific prophylaxis, applied to themselves and to all around persons; protection measures are applied in a high but insufficient and even incomplete proportion; students ask for supplementary information about BHV infection; the study demonstrate without any doubts the necessity of periodic evaluation of theoretical and practical knowledge and continuing medical education of nurses representing health educators for population and a group with high professional risk and responsibility.
