Abstract

The thermal spray is a domain connected to the welding process that obtains layers with special properties by using ferrous and non-ferrous add-on materials or ceramic ones, polymers, composites and others. Depending on the selected material, the obtained layers gain several types of resistance, such as: resistance to abrasion, corrosion, thermal shocks, electric and thermal insulator. This paper analyses the different aspects of the high-velocity thermal spray such as High Velocity Oxygen Fuel, High Velocity Air Fuel and Cold Spray, with their advantages and drawbacks, both from a technical and financial point of view. We will discuss their applicability in the automotive industry for producing new high-quality prices or for reconditioning weathered surfaces.
