Computer Program for the Cusum Chart

Abstract

The paper presents a computer program for the Cumulative Sum (or CUSUM) Control Chart. This type of chart represents an alternative to the Shewhart control chart for phase II process monitoring situations. The CUSUM chart takes into account the information given by the entire sequence of the points; therefore it can be used for detecting small changes in the process mean. The program was developed in MS Excel 2007, according to the Tabular CUSUM procedure and can be used in plant practice for monitoring the process mean. The paper presents also an observation about the way the Shewhart chart can detect the small changes in the process mean.
