Abstract

In this paper, the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) method has been used to assess the degradation state (oxidation degree) of different polyolefin plastic wastes from the construction industry, separated into density fractions. Polyolefin oxidation has been identified and quantified by the presence of a strong absorption band assigned to carbonyl groups and its possible influence on the properties and behavior of the polymer wastes has been critically assessed.
