Abstract

Luminescence from laser-produced cavitation bubbles in water is investigated experimentally. The main parameters of this study are the maximum bubble radius and the ambient pressure of the liquid surrounding the bubble. The luminescence pulse was determined using a very fast photomultiplier- tube (PM) and the maximum temperature of the bubble was determined using a spectrum analyzer. The results indicate that the luminescence pulse is of the order of nanoseconds while the maximum temperature of the bubble at the minimum volume is about 9000 K.
