Abstract

Air conditioning systems have known a steady growth in recent decades which has had a major impact on energy demand and the environment. Systems using solar energy as fuel have been developed more than 100 years ago. The paper presents an alternative system, an ammonia-water absorption refrigeration system (ARS) powered by low-temperature energy, using renewable sources for cooling. A short numerical calculation is made to determine the performance of the machine. The results obtained using the EES program are also presented as first measurements on a prototype machine.
