Abstract

The corrosion of the steel bars embedded in reinforced concrete elements is a process that significantly reduces the lifetime of the structure. Non-destructive testing and evaluation methods have a particularly important role to determine the degradation level of a reinforced concrete element. Non-destructive evaluation means locating, describing, and evaluating the corrosion process, determining the shape and position of the reinforcements, and the characteristics of the construction material. This paper presents the main non-destructive testing methods used to identify the reinforcement corrosion process in reinforced concrete elements.
