Abstract

The depletion of fossil fuels and the global warming/greenhouse effect lay increased pressure on sustainable development in the building sector. Energy-efficient buildings will develop into low-energy ones by improving wall insulation and by using more advanced windows/doors. New houses or retrofitted buildings are conceived based on new principles and present technologies, such as ventilation air heat recovery, with a view to better comfort. The additional investments must be analyzed in correlation with the constant increase in fuel prices and the carbon dioxide saved.
